Technical Sales Engineer, Laser Products. £35,000 Basic, £45,000 OTE + Car and benefits. UK wide role. This is a very varied role with one of the UK's largest manufacturers and suppliers of lasers, photonics, optoelectronics and associated accessories. The role is predominantly technical sales though requires a practical and 'hands-on' individual that can 'walk the walk' technically when required.
The role is mostly account management, or following leads developed from marketing initiatives, so is best suited to a highly likeable, technically competent account manager that listens to customers and is very professional in approach.
The company enjoys incredibly high levels of repeat business, and they put this down to not only high quality and reliable products but also down to the professionalism of their sales team providing terrific advice and support to the client base.
The company manufacture and distribute a wide range of products from niche specialist lasers and photonic products to mainstream laser products used in industrial laser marking machines to scientific applications. The products are sold to end-users although predominantly they are sold into OEMs and 'specced in' at design engineer levels. Clients range from manufacturers of scientific instrumentation to F1 teams to manufacturers to mainstream component and industrial manufacturing, medical devices, automotive and aerospace. As a consequence, it's a fascinating client base that has unique problems that need solving and therefore provides high levels of both job satisfaction and the ability to develop strong business partnerships.
In time, it is expected that you will become either a 'product champion' or work a particular 'vertical market' of clients. To apply for the role your experience must be within lasers as it is felt the 'jump' into lasers and photonics from outside the sector could take years. Whilst the ideal candidate will have laser sales experience the company are happy to look at candidates with an Applications Engineer/Technical Support/Internal Sales background within lasers and/or photonics looking to progress into sales.
As a person, you will be able to get on with all levels and be personable, positive, enthusiastic and willing to learn new products in a sector with rapidly evolving technologies and applications. You will be happy with a reasonably autonomous role and be looking for a 5 year plus position. The company enjoys incredibly low staff attrition (they've only lost one salesperson in the last ten years) and are fair, open, involve all staff in the direction of the business and reward success with an uncapped commission scheme.
The existing business is concentrated in the technology arc between Cambridge and Oxford so the ideal location would be someone in the South East but willing to cover the whole of the UK.
