DESCRIPTION

The Retail industry is one of the AWS’s fastest-growing sectors, where changing consumer behaviours and global operational challenges are dramatically revamping the industry in many ways. Amazon’s retail heritage is at the core of AWS, and places our services at the core of Retail digital transformation.

AWS is looking for a Business Development leader who understands business trends impacting the Retail industry, and is passionate and capable of driving market development across the sector for AWS, leveraging the richness of the AWS cloud computing platform to position and drive the right technology solutions, enable the ecosystem, and address changing industry needs.

The responsibilities will include engaging with and influencing key Retail customers in UK & Ireland and industry partners. You will attend and speak at industry events, lead the process to enable industry solutions, and support the creation of significant new business opportunities for AWS. You will enable the AWS sales teams selling to industry accounts to drive their day-to-day interactions with key prospects. You will work closely with AWS Solutions Architects to develop and promote cloud patterns and solutions for the industry, including new innovations in areas like Machine Learning and Voice Commerce, and partner based solutions etc. You will work closely with the AWS product and services teams to help evolve AWS offerings for more rapid adoption by customers.

The ideal candidate will have both a business and consulting background, with experience working with Retail customers in the UK, demonstrated experience interacting at the CxO/VP level, with a good understanding of how new technology and drive value for Retailers. You should have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions, and collaborate to build consensus. In short, you will discover trends and shape the conversation in the retail industry for the future. A keen sense of ownership, drive, and scrappiness is a must.

· Serve as a key member of the EMEA Business Development team to drive overall AWS market and technical strategy for the Retail industry in the UK and Ireland region.
· Support the execution on the market development plan and ensure its in line with the AWS strategic direction, in partnership with key internal stakeholders.
· Define and size segments, identify and engage key customers, and identify and engage key partners including ISVs and system integrators.
· Build business development pipeline by engaging with key prospects and partners.
· Understand the technical requirements of our customers and work closely with the internal development teams to guide the direction of our product offerings for developers.
· Understand the use of salesforce.com and other internal Amazon systems.
· Present business reviews to the senior management team regarding progress and roadblocks to expanding our reach in the industry.
· Enable technology for change, leading high impact engagements in cloud computing in industry innovation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· The right person will be technical and analytical, and possess at significant business development or program/product management experience in or selling to the Retail industry in United Kingdom and ideally the Retail industry in Ireland too.
· Strong leadership skills are key, with proven verbal and written communications skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations.
· Relevant technical knowledge is helpful, such as: database systems, IoT, core distributed computing concepts, fundamentals of cloud computing and virtualization, storage systems, with ability to go deep enough on key relevant technologies for the industry.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Education - an MBA is desired;
· Technical background with Computer Science, and/or Engineering/Math background is highly desired
· Working knowledge of software development practices and data centre / infrastructure / networking technologies highly desired.
