Head of Business Services

The Head of Business Services (HBS) is responsible for leading the creation, execution and successful delivery of our Business Services offerings and the delivery of the financial targets relating to revenue and profit.

The Head of Business Services is responsible for the positioning, sales and marketing, pricing, promotions, establishing future areas of growth and delivering increasing profitability for both techUK’s training programme and software escrow business.

We require an individual who can demonstrate an understanding of how to create and deliver added value services that support our members and non-member customer business activities through demonstrating value creation and ROI. This is a customer facing role and the candidate will be required to develop client/ member relationships and win new business as a key priority of the role. The successful candidate is likely to have sales/ account management experience.

The position requires the individual to work effectively with a series of partners and suppliers to offer services; specifically, in securing gross and net revenue targets through the delivery of an annual programme of training courses whilst simultaneously performing a marketing and sales role for the software escrow service. Both services are revenue generating and seek to maximise and grow profitability each year.

These techUK services are a mixture of value-added member services and revenue and profit-generating services.

The post is responsible for managing and developing the delivery of services and outputs from the marketing & sales, legal affairs and HR groups.

The person appointed will show capability and potential to build on a strong foundation of business services, an ability to sell these services to members and other partners, an ability to negotiate with service providers and manage the contractual relationships between techUK, its partners and customers. 

This role requires someone who has the communication skills, confidence and drive to grow their own profile and that of techUK. This is a hands-on role, with a small supporting team and you will be expected to create, manage and close your own revenue opportunities as a key part of the role.

The role is target driven, working towards monthly, quarterly and annual fiscal targets for Gross and Net revenue along with the management of costs. The role has line manager responsibility for a Business Services Manager and a Business Services Assistant. The HBS will be expected to efficiently and effectively allocate tasks and responsibilities across the team to ensure the delivery of the best quality programme of services and financial results with the available resource.

This is a full-time role based at techUK’s central London office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training and Development
  • Achieve budgets/ targets
  • Development, marketing and sales of an annual programme of over 50 courses and in-house training delivered to techUK’s members and non-members
  • Produce an annual business plan outlining service positioning, target market, pricing and promotions and future areas of growth
  • Identification, recruitment and managing of relationships with training partners.
  • Negotiate commercial arrangements with suppliers and ensure profitability of the programme
  • Ensure that courses delivered are of high quality and focused on the needs of the audience
  • Develop the programme through consultation with customers and by analysis of feedback
  • Prepare digital marketing materials including; monthly e-bulletins; email; social media messaging and brochures
  • Edit course content, ensuring each follows a consistent format
  • Produce website content promoting the offerings
  • Liaise with accounts, suppliers and customers regarding billing and accounting issues/enquiries
  • Software Escrow Service
  • Achieve budgets/targets
  • Promotion and sales of the services to expand the customer base
  • Produce an annual business plan outlining service positioning, target market, pricing and promotions and future areas of growth
  • Handle sales enquiries
  • Produce marketing materials including brochure and website copy
  • Plan and implement digital marketing campaigns
  • Monitor advertising through web engines
  • In partnership with a data law firm, negotiate changes to standard terms contracts where required by customers, ensuring that any changes do not extend techUK’s risks
  • Develop and launch additional escrow products
  • Manage relationship with a data law partner to ensure legal risks relating to escrow agreements are managed and techUK and its customers meet their obligations under new and existing contracts
  • Manage relationships with suppliers including data law partners, storage companies, and testing companies
  • Account manage existing customers and handle queries relating to escrow agreements
  • Liaise with accounts, suppliers and customers regarding billing and accounting issues/enquiries
  • Professional Services Groups and other Services
  • Manage and develop the delivery of services to the marketing, legal affairs and HR groups
  • Manage the successful delivery of the Legal Advice Service and the Business HR Service

 Essential Knowledge and Experience

  • Strong and demonstrable experience in selling service propositions
  • Strong and demonstrable sales execution experience and proven target achievement success
  • Experience in sales planning, reporting and measurement
  • Experience of managing relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders

Desired Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of contract drafting and management preferred
