Synopsis: My Client is seeking a Professional and Dynamic Commercial / Sales Manager from a Waste Management background to business develop Local Authority contracts for Recycling and Residual Waste Management. £40/45K, Realistic OTE, Car, Pension and Exec Benefits. Based Central Belt of Scotland


Job Title: Landfill and Commercial Fuel Quality Manager  – Recycling and Waste Management  


Package: To £35K Base salary, £40/45K Realistic OTE,  Bonus, Car Pension and Executive Benefits  


Area / Location: Glasgow / Edinburgh / Central Scotland base   


Brief job description:  My Client is one of the UK’s leading recycling renewable energy and waste management companies. Part of a FTSE 250 Group the Landfill Energy and Regional Fuel Supply division manage contracts with over a hundred local authorities and more than 30,000 businesses UK wide, safely managing over seven million tonnes of recyclables and waste materials each year. Reporting to the head of Local Authority Contracts my Client now seeks a professional Land Fill Commercial and Fuel Quality Manager to meet the following criteria


    • To identify and secure, profitable new waste inputs contracts to the sites operated by Client’s Landfill Energy facilities. Focusing on commercial customers within pre-set budget parameters.


    • To lead the optimisation of gate fees at sites working closely with operations team. Negotiate advantageous commercial terms and conditions.


    • To develop and implement the sales plan for Client’s landfill and ERF sites allocated by line management, including commercial input into the medium-term planning of landfill site inputs, including delaying of site closures and reopening of mothballed sites


    • Visit customer and internal premises to audit and inspect facilities and resultant fuel to ensure compliance with the ERF fuel specification, obtain samples and report and address non­ conformances through the production of detailed reports


    • Work closely with key stakeholders inside and outside of the business.






14.                  ACCOUNTABILITIES                                                                                                        

    1. To secure profitable new business within authorised price matrices. Negotiate contractual agreements with existing and new customers for landfill inputs, monitoring their deliveries on a weekly basis.

    2. Retention and growth of current customer base and seeking opportunities wherever possible for revenue improvement, by volume and price.

    3. To identify and make effective sales calls within the designated market territory.

    4. To identify and maintain a customer prospect database in a format agreed by, and accessible to company management, including a diarised approach to contract renewal intelligence.

    5. Undertake a scheduled programme of random inspections of waste at customer facilities, in the ERF tipping hall and at designated waste inspection areas. Conduct inspections in conjunction with the ERF and landfill site staff as required, to ensure compliance with the waste acceptance protocols.

    6. Advise customers of the waste specification and of any non-conformances identified. Share information with internal stakeholders as required.

    7. Take samples of fuel, waste & soils for referral to an appointed laboratory for further analysis and ensure that analytical data is reviewed against ERF fuel specifications, Environmental Permits and any other applicable legislation.

    8. Working effectively and safely at customer and  facilities, adhering to all local and corporate H&S rules, approved method statements and safe operating procedures/Risk assessments.

    9. Work with Operational teams to monitor performance, conduct periodic reviews, and ensure that key performance indicators are met.

    10. Represent the company in a professional and courteous manner to maintain and communicate the brand image.

    11. To provide accurate reports as required, in line with line management and Company requirements.

    12. Work closely with the operational facilities to ensure all client expectations are adhered too.




Knowledge of the Waste Market and Waste Production

Good knowledge of territory and waste market area including competitor knowledge

Knowledge of Landfill Tax arrangements         



Previous B2B Sales Experience

Knowledge of Waste Legislation

Working with Legal teams on Commercial processes




Computer literate

Communiction, Presentation and Negotiation skills


Well educated
