Hays is proud to be working in partnership with MET Living Ltd (METL) who are a dynamic and growing organisation that embraces the community and leisure activities of the Morris Education Trust. METL came into existence in 2017, replacing ‘Impington Sports Centre Limited’ and broadened its scope to include a second sports centre in Witchford and the venue hire, adult learning and community activities of the two village colleges.

Their aim is to grow METL so that it is a leading and highly profitable provider of community-based activity in Cambridgeshire. They have ambitious plans to improve their facilities and to see new sites join their roster as the trust grows. This unique approach is what makes METL different. This ambition leads them to recruit for a Commercial Manager as a newly created role. Therefore, they have an exciting opportunity for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit and a commercial understanding who can shape a leisure-based business into a wide ranging profitable enterprise.  

The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, promote and lead MET Living facilities to improve all functions of MET-Living Ltd. You will primarily do this by developing a responsive and efficient team capable of delivering a first-class customer facing experience and environment. Improving membership sales and retention and developing an effective business plan to maximise income and profitability whilst also ensuring adherence to high quality standards.

This is a key appointment and a pivotal role where you will have the commercial vision and drive to lead the team and make METL an even greater success. You will do this by having strong commercial business acumen, high levels of drive, ambition and resilience to be successful in getting things done. You will have robust skills in managing a commercial business with previous experience in operational planning, operational implementation, quality assurance and safeguarding.  

Previous strategic leadership experience in general management within the sports and leisure, venue hire/conference, facilities or community learning environment would be highly advantageous. Additional pre-requisite experience would also include the ability to motivate and coach staff in a dynamic and changing business. Develop change plans from inception to implementation, change management and implement the development of successful and pioneering marketing strategies. A proven track record of delivering growth, solid understanding of financial needs and driving new business/revenue streams is essential to be successful in this role.

METL has a hands-on, problem solving team culture, so it is essential that you have the ability to trouble shoot, coach, motivate, manage and influence others to step up and continue the improvement process.  This role will also involve the recruitment, development and retention of a sales and marketing team, and a facilities department. Therefore, previous experience in recruitment, development and retention of staff is essential to build a high performing successful team.

In return METL are offering a competitive salary dependant on experience and benefits which include; a performance related bonus, attractive Local Government Pension Scheme (employer contributions of 18%). Holiday allowance of 23 days per annum plus bank holidays rising after 5 years to 28 days and 30 days after 10 years including an extra day off to take when you wish to spend time with your family. 50% reduction for staff use of the onsite sports facilities.

This is a full-time role, 37 hours per week with a rotating weekly shift pattern. The primary base for this position will be MET Living at Impington Sports Centre but travel will be required around any of the current sites or new sites as they come on stream.
