Purchasing Manager - Structural Steel & Metal Fabrications

Job Title: Purchasing Manager - Structural Steel & Metal Fabrications

Industry Sector: Purchasing/ Buying, Structural Metal, Mezzanine Floors, Retail Fit Out, Metal Fabrication and Steelwork

Based: West Midlands head office

Remuneration: £40,000-£45,000 Neg. basic salary & full benefits

The role of the Purchasing Manager - Structural Steel & Metal Fabrications will involve:

  • Responsibility for developing, executing and leading purchasing strategies across all group companies
  • Overseeing all existing supplier/ partner relationships and developing new relationships
  • Sourcing the best quality materials at the most competitive rates
  • Managing minimal stock, as our client orders on a contract by contract basis (JIT – “just in time” stock management)
  • Negotiating framework agreements with key suppliers (quarterly visits to top 8-10 suppliers)
  • Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing customers
  • Liaise between suppliers and internal teams such as manufacturing and project delivery
  • Ensuring the security and sustainability of sources of essential materials
  • Supervise purchasing administrator
  • Monitor quality and delivery performance of suppliers
  • Responding to pricing enquiries from other departments

 

The ideal applicant will be a Purchasing Manager - Structural Steel & Metal Fabrications with:

  • Purchasing Manager or Buyer with demonstrable experience of leading a purchasing function
  • Structural steel and/ or metal fabrication industry background
  • Broad understanding of current manufacturing methods
  • Business acumen
  • Forensic attention to detail and recognition of trends and variances
  • Self driven with positive outlook
  • Focus on high quality system delivery and business profit
  • Team player who is self-aware
  • Mental agility, drive & enthusiasm, articulate
  • Ideally degree or HNC in relevant commercial or engineering discipline (purchasing qualification would be advantageous)
