Abingdon

Our client is the global leader and innovator in inspection, verification, testing and certification services.

They currently have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to oversee their Abingdon laboratory to ensure that the service they deliver is in accordance with the company and client's expectations regarding turnaround time and quality objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the laboratory by leading Health and Safety activities, line managing and developing a team on site, planning current and future development of workforce through sound performance management; and to fulfil the role of UKAS ISO17025 Quality Manager.

Managing a small team of employees on a key customer site in the Abingdon area, you will make certain that all members of staff have the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in order to provide a high-quality service to their customers. Focussing on the continual improvement of their services, you will identify opportunities for professional development and enable employees to realise their personal career goals.

In addition to this, you will show a strong commitment to improving standards in all areas of the laboratories, through ensuring that the equipment and building are fit for purpose, carrying out audits and following them up with appropriate action, and making sure that the laboratories maintain their quality standards in accordance with the client and ISO17025/ISO9001 requirements. Establishing excellent two-way communication between the laboratory and the client you will be anticipating their needs and committing to appropriate business objectives. Your communication skills will also play a vital role in fostering excellent relations between the Abingdon and Ellesmere Port Laboratory teams.

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of a HNC/HND (or equivalent) qualification in chemistry, with GCSE Grade A - C (or equivalent) in Maths and Science subjects. With technical knowledge of laboratory testing activities (preferably within the petro-chemical industry), you will also have knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System. An excellent communicator, you will have a good working knowledge of people management techniques that you can apply to lead a team. The successful candidate will be able to adopt a flexible approach to their workload, and react positively to a rapidly changing environment, constantly working with a high degree of autonomy and maturity.

Along with your good management sense and commitment to customer service, this work ethic will provide a standard to which the laboratory team can work, ensuring that we continually deliver a top quality Analytical Testing Service.
