Job Description

Digital Unite - Head of Sales

Digital Unite, is one of the UK's main providers of digital skills learning. An independent organisation established since 1996, we offer a range of services and resources to support people on their digital journey, from the complete beginner to the more experienced user. We are especially keen to promote the benefits of computers and the internet to older people, delivering national award-winning initiatives in this area.

The Digital Unite Academy will be officially launched in late March 2012 with its new and innovative Digital Champion ITQ qualification, an e-learning syllabus that will help people develop in-depth, formal digital championing skills. It can lead to a Level 2 qualification under the National ITQ Framework and accredited by City and Guilds. Supported throughout by dedicated online tutors, the range of topics is broad and includes Google, Skype, connectivity options, accessibility, catering for differences, browser customisation, Facebook, Twitter and the social internet, upgrades and players, creative activities online, podcasting and blogging. The emphasis throughout is on learning how to engage others empathically and creatively with digital technologies.

This exciting sales role is offered on the basis of a six month freelance contract, with an option subsequently to become an employee on a fixed term basis. The successful applicant will work primarily remotely, with frequent face to face meetings in London and Winchester. The position reports to the Managing Director. The primary role of this appointment is to be responsible for achieving the sales targets for the Academy products.

Role

  • Develop and execute a sales plan for the DU Academy to meet agreed management targets
  • Proactively influence and contribute to the DU Academy marketing plan
  • In conjunction with the Communications Manager, identify and place marketing collateral in online and offline media for specified target audiences
  • Speak with authority and gravitas at suitable occasions e.g. industry meetings, partner meetings, events
  • Generate a continuing healthy pipeline and work leads to closure
  • Develop strategic relationships with major partners in order to create opportunities and close bulk deals
  • Handle sales enquiries from potential learners, employers and organisations, and actively pursue leads at a level commensurate with the lead size and quality
  • Ensure data on leads, pipelines, partners and closed deals is correctly captured in a timely way in suitable systems
  • Generate strategic success stories for inclusion in marketing collateral and communications
  • Feed market needs and requests back to content management team
  • Maintain overview of competitive landscape and identify opportunities for new product development

Qualities and experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in sales, ideally in selling e-learning products
  • Proven track record in identifying, negotiating and closing sales deals including relationship-based sales
  • An understanding of the public and charity sectors balanced with solid commercial experience over many years
  • Demonstrated ability to build and close pipeline and to deliver sales targets
  • Dynamic, authoritative and commercially aware
  • Motivated self-starter familiar with working in a small agile company
  • Able to actively use own initiative to creatively develop opportunities to further the reach and outputs of the DU Academy
  • An understanding of the goals and aspirations of Digital Unite and a strong willingness to align with them


1 year fixed term contract with a salary in the range £42-46k pro-rata for 4 days per week on an employed basis or self-employed at £160-£180 per day.
