Nottingham Trent University
Building on the University’s national reputation for innovation and excellence in science, technology and land-based education, and its commitment to experiential learning via student placements and industry-based projects, this is a genuine career opportunity for a commercial business developer with a proven track record for delivering unparalleled sales growth.
The School of Science & Technology provides a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and bespoke courses for industry. The School is justifiably proud of its strengths across a wide range of science disciplines including biomedical sciences, biological science, chemistry, computing, forensic science, mathematics, physics, sports science and technology. Its undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses benefit significantly from the active research and professional expertise of its academic staff. Its strong links with industry ensure market relevance and have led to a very strong track record in graduate employability.
The School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences has a strong academic record and a history of applied research contracts with industry and commercial bodies, particularly in the fields of environmental management, food, animal nutrition and agriculture.
A significant element of the Schools’ income is derived from the design and delivery of innovative, sector-leading courses and applied research contracts for industry and the commercial sector. Their current challenge is to extend and diversify these activities significantly while maintaining their most lucrative, strategic and intellectually important ventures. There is also a priority to develop opportunities to build on the Schools’ strong record of international recruitment at PG level and of collaboration with international education and research partners. We are therefore looking to appoint an exceptional candidate who will work with management and academics from both Schools to develop commercial opportunities and revenue by expanding and working within national and international corporate networks.
The post holder will provide strategic and operational input to drive the 'work winning' process within defined sectors. The role will involve growing income streams from existing clients and driving new client acquisition through the development of market-leading services that enhance the academic profile of both Schools.
The successful candidate will have excellent business development skills, proven within environments appropriate to the relevant subject areas, and will have had success selling primarily to the private sector. You will possess demonstrable capability in face-to-face relationship-building, selling, prospecting through developing networks, and making unsolicited contact with senior professionals. You will also be able to measure customer satisfaction, and demonstrate the ability to establish long-term relationships that ensure repeat business.
