Job Description
The Company
My clients, who operate in a very specialist niche market, are suppliers of Glazing to the Construction and Commercial Industry. The company's head office is based north of London and they have 70+ employees and have been established for over 40 years.
Due to an impending retirement, they now have a vacancy for a Technical Sales Advisor to consult and advise their customers. The company aren't cheap but sell on product, service and reputation.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to work in a 'family' business, where the turnover of staff is very low, and there is a more personal feel than a large corporate environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Sales Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for 'warm leads' and providing a 'consultative approach' to their potential customers. A lot of the company's business is through referrals and the marketing team, who allocate the enquiries to a Technical Advisor. The Technical Advisor will then respond to the enquiry, make an appointment (in the majority of cases) with the potential client at the site. They will look (and be able to understand) drawings, make their own sketches, go through specifications and discuss with the customer. Later on they will offer a bespoke solution/package to the client. This is technical sales, but also a technical estimation position. He/she will sell to Architects, Specifiers, Contractors, Local Authorities, Hotels, and occasionally domestic customers. The successful person will also attend weekly/monthly sales meetings on a Monday morning along with the other Technical Advisors. Although officially an office based role, the person will be expected to be out visiting clients the majority of the time.
The Person
Very important they can fit in to a team.
Must have 'consultative' sales skills (they don't want a hardnosed salesman).
Suitable candidates must:
·Have knowledge of the Construction Industry in some form
·Visit clients; from Architects to Specifiers to Local Authorities and Contractors
·Provide estimates
·Provide sketches
·Understand drawings
·Be relaxed with people
The bonus is paid on the company's performance so they don't issue personal targets. Company target is circa £7m. However in the first year, the TA would be expected to generate somewhere in the region of £250,000 - £300,000.
The Package
A basic salary of £30,000. They are flexible though, and if the successful candidate proves they are worth more, then a salary review will take place 3 months after they join the company.
The bonus is around £5650.00 and commission is paid on everything sold the more sold, the more the employees earn. There is also a Christmas bonus which is approximately 3% of salary.
