Job Description

A specialist trade and technical marketing consultancy in south Manchester is looking for an experienced account manager to join their existing successful team.

  

You will need a solid business to business agency background with advanced writing, reporting, presentation and project management skills. You should be able to talk to clients and the media in "their language", be it another national language or technical discipline, for example with a science or engineering degree or experience.

  

This person will have previous experience of marketing in an agency environment, and will have developed the necessary skills to manage a number of accounts.

  

Account handling skills

  • § Demonstrate advanced writing (releases, features, proposals, etc), reporting and presentation skills.
  • § Plan, organise and control day-to-day work on a number of client accounts.
  • § Maintain close liaison with clients to ensure work is progressing satisfactorily and opportunities are being seized. Involve senior management as appropriate.
  • § Understand client objectives; evaluate strategically on a weekly and monthly basis; evaluate tactically on a daily basis.
  • § Develop and broaden client relationships.

International

  • § Use relevant language(s) - both written and spoken - on a regular basis in a business context. Fluency in european languages such as German, French, Spanish or Italian is preferred but not essential.
  • § Travel to attend client meetings/exhibitions as required; amount of travel will depend on client portfolio.

  

Knowledge

  • § Build a knowledge base of clients, client publications, industry publications and issues.

  

Commercial skills

  • § Identify ways of developing each client account.
  • § Development of new opportunities on existing business, and new business as nominated. Preparation of proposals.
  • § Liaison with third party suppliers and agreement of budget for bought-in services with Production Department personnel.

  

Management

  • § Demonstrate leadership skills.
  • § Ensure professional development of team member(s) (if appropriate).
  • § Maintain quality control over work produced by junior staff.
  • § Team motivation. Identification of problems on team to discuss with senior management.

  

Personal skills

  • § Communicate confidently across all levels internally, with the press and with clients.
  • § Apply time management principles to balance workloads for yourself, and team members (where relevant).
  • § Take responsibility for personal development; identify requirements and proactively seek opportunities to meet needs.

  

  

Person Specification:

  

Core skills: strong copywriting and editing; agency/trade experience; through the line experience; languages are a definite advantage.
