Sales Manager – Construction / Building products

Job Title: Territory Sales Manager – Construction / Building Products

Industry Sector: Painting and decorating contractors, maintenance companies, facilities maintenance, local authorities, building contractors and decorating centres

Areas to be covered: Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire

Remuneration: £25,000-£27,500 + 20% Bonus

The role of the Territory Sales Manager Construction / Building Materials will involve:

  • Field sales position promoting architectural coatings / paint, woodcare, wallcoverings and sundries on construction sites to end users
  • Covering LU, MK, SL, HP, OX & SN
  • 60% account managing circa 150+ customers
  • 40% new business development
  • Revenue responsibility of circa £500,000 (currently slightly below budget but with huge potential!)
  • Back-selling through approx. five decorating centres
  • Calling on painting & decorators sites, as well as local councils, schools, maintenance departments and construction sites
  • Via promotions selling direct to contractors, minimum five customer calls per day

The ideal applicant will be a Territory Sales Manager Construction / Building Materials with:

  • Minimum 12 months field sales experience within the building / construction industry
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Contractor led sales experience is preferred, related product field sales experience in paint, coatings, wood care etc only desirable
  • Ability to think on your feet, e.g. fill an opening/cancellation in your diary productively and proactively
  • Knowledge of  paint and coatings is not essential
  • Team player, must be able to build excellent relationships internally, especially with the specification field sales team, decorating  centres and retail sales professionals
  • Ideally sold to different sized organisations from one man bands to large corporate clients (not worked in a stockist environment calling on merchants)
  • Comfortable visiting client sites and liaising with various painting & decorating contractors, local councils, schools, maintenance departments etc
  • Previous experience of back selling through an established distribution channel would be of interest
  • Comfortable with using a CRM system, and analysing date for pre & post customer visits
  • Self motivated and looking for a genuine career opportunity in a blue chip environment business
