Production Manager required for a company who are a leading designer and manufacturer of Composite Wall and Ceiling Panels for both internal and external use.

These products have been specified within a broad range of nationwide building and construction projects, including schools, hospitals, stadiums and many large Retail branded store developments.

Salary of circa £38k dependent on experience + benefits.

Job Summary:

The Production Manager is a member of the Production Control Team (Scheduler/Process Leads/Materials Controller) reporting directly to the Operations Director. The Production Manager is accountable and responsible for plant production including quality control, protection of equipment, departmental cost control and Goods Inwards, with joint responsibility with appointed persons for managing departmental safety, quality and environmental controls. A key aspect is the development of production employees, including the Process Leads.

You can expect to work around 40 hours per week. The role may involve shift work and unsocial hours to make sure there's cover throughout the production process. Extended hours may be required to meet deadlines or to introduce new systems. You could be on call at weekends or public holidays to deal with problems.


To lead the production teams and ensure that performance targets are achieved

To ensure product is manufactured at optimum efficiency, in order that profitability targets are realised

To work closely with the Engineering Department to ensure that line reliability and performance is optimised

To ensure product is manufactured in line with customer quality standards

To work effectively with all other relevant cross functional areas of the business

To actively promote safe working practices throughout the manufacturing operation

To develop the skills within the team with the aim of improving performance and reducing waste

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitor output to ensure targets are being met and delivery and customer service requirements are being satisfied

Provide manufacturing information by compiling and analysing production performance records and data; answering questions and responding to requests

Inspect products to verify conformance to specifications

Enforce standards of workplace organisation and housekeeping to maintain a safe and clean working environment

Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations

Establish and/or adjust Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to meet production, quality and H&S targets

Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product

Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of equipment and/or workforce

Analyse and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems

Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workforce to achieve work goals

Management Responsibilities:

Manage employees in the Production Department and oversee the production process

Ensure that the production is cost effective

Manage required labour resources

Set the quality standards

Monitor the production processes and feedback to the Production Scheduler as required

Liaise among different departments, e.g. Supply Chain; Maintenance

Work with other managers to implement the company's policies and goals

Ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed and that Accidents and Dangerous Occurrences (near misses) are reported in order that appropriate action can be taken

Manage and motivate a team of workers

Review worker performance and identify training needs

Report environmental incidents (leaks & spills) and take immediate action to prevent pollution

With HR, ongoing review of operator skill competency via use of training matrix to ensure training and development needs are covered

Provide supportive management to coach, develop and motivate the team

Is responsible for the overall coordination and evaluation of manufacturing output

Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees (as part of the recruitment function); planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees

Address complaints, resolve problems and mitigate future occurrences

Key Skills:

Understanding, development and monitoring of manufacturing K.P.I.'s

10 to 15 years manufacturing experience

Previous experience in the role of Production Manager in a Machinery based Product manufacturing role.

Good report writing and analytical skills

Intimate operating knowledge of all processing equipment and processes

Good oral and written communication/presentation skills

Sound mathematical skills

IT literate

Microsoft Office (Word/PowerPoint/Excel)
