Business Development Manager - Scunthorpe

This business is a well established family run business and the UK's largest independent steel stockholder, with their own distribution fleet and sites across the UK. With 43 companies within the group, based across 28 locations, their extensive steel processing facilities are world-class and their expertise and advanced specialist skills have ensured the outstanding success of a diverse range of high-profile projects around the globe.

Position: Business Development Manager
Location: Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire
Salary: £30-£40k, plus company car/ car allowance, pension and bonus scheme

The Role:

They are now seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to define and generate additional sales opportunities for the Lasertubes division.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Ensure that market trends as defined by likely customer, supplier and competitor activity, are fully understood so as inform the development of realistic and achievable sales plans.
- Develop robust sales plans, within the constraints of operational capacity, that seek to secure profitable new market share and gross margin growth through a combination of new business and new product sales through lowest cost to serve.
- Ensure sales plans reflect the need to minimise stock levels, work in progress and customer debtor days in order control unnecessary investment in working capital.
- Develop, publicise and apply a business commercial operating policy, informed as appropriate by the Group, within limits of authority on pricing, credit etc.
- Develop, publicise, apply and monitor customer service standards that seek to build customer retention levels.
- Personally lead negotiations with potential customers and through regular meetings, build relationships to maximise commercial opportunities with them.
- Ensure that effective systems of control and information exist, routinely monitor sales performance against plan in order to maximise profit potential and where necessary initiate action to bring that performance "back-on-track".

The candidate

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a Business Development role, with a demonstrable track record of winning new business and maximising opportunities within an existing customer base.

Ideally, you will have knowledge of the steel industry, however candidates with an excellent track record from within other manufacturing business' will be considered. More important is your appreciation of profit and loss accounts and margin negotiations.
