In order to drive our continued growth DS Smith Heavy Duty are looking for an AccountManager to cover the North of England. The role calls for a tenacious, self-motivated and insightful individual who can work across all areas of the supply cycle. The successful applicant will have the ability to identify, develop and present market leading solutions. Ultimately delivering the value & volume requirements required for our ambitious growth targets based on the DS Smith "Customer Journey" sales strategy.

Reporting to the Sales Manager the role will involve working closely with the external / internal sales teams, marketing, design & technical departments. However the majority of the role will be field based, managing existing customers and developing new opportunities for the Wirral & Hinckley manufacturing operations.

What being an Account Manager at DS Smith will involve...

Your main duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

•Management of several Heavy Duty Key Accounts.

•The ability to identify opportunities and develop solutions within the customer base.

•Actively promoting Heavy Duty products, capabilities and services to the target market sectors.

•Development of new products and capabilities to the target markets.

•Networking within DS Smith generating additional intercompany opportunities.

•Delivering overall growth in line with the Heavy Duty sales strategy.

What we would like our candidate to have...

The successful individual will be educated to a high level; having a proven sales background in account management or business development within a high volume, progressive, manufacturing environment. Experience of Heavy Duty applications especially in the Ready For Use bulk market would be beneficial but not essential.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the characteristics below as well as many more!

•Commercially astute and consultative approach to account management & business development.

•An in depth understanding of "added value" strategies.

•Proven exposure to high profile clients / FMCG brands & retailers.

•Excellent networking skills with the ability to develop key relationships within customers, prospects & the wider DS Smith group.

•Possess excellent negotiating & communication skills.

•Computer literate - MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

•Possess a full driving license.

•An understanding of the UK Chemical & Bulk sectors would be beneficial.

•Effective time management skills, being able to work remotely and maximise effective selling time.


This role covers a geographic region across the North of England, so ability to travel is essential. The successful applicant would also need to visit the main Heavy Duty site in Hinckley. Overnight stays will be needed as and when required to make effective use of travel plans and time.
