The Co-operative Group, Britain’s fifth-largest grocery retailer, unveiled record profits today after its acquisition of the rival supermarket chain Somerfield.
The mutual, which is also Britain’s biggest provider of pre-paid funeral services, reported an 85 per cent rise in full-year profits — before taking account of dividend payments to members — to £402 million.
